There are so many songs that have impacted me over the years. It is hard to think of just one. They are all meaningful in their own ways. If I had to narrow it down, I would say, Celine Dion. When I think of Celine Dion there is not a particular song that comes to mind; instead, I think of the whole of ‘The Colour of My Love’ album. I remember being in my mid-to-late twenties and seeing her sing for the first time. I was drawn to the way she sings her songs – the passion and drive she puts into her music. She seemed so authentic and genuine and that resonated with me.
The way she connected with her audience… she seemed like her authentic self. She’s outgoing, has dry humour, a bit corny at times – but she’s being herself! I wouldn’t say she has the best voice in the world… but things just connected between her and her music.

At that time, I had been singing for a while; seeing the way she sang made me want to sing to the best of my ability. It was my first time seeing that fire and drive – just opening up and hitting those notes. She has a higher range – a range very similar to mine. Sometimes I would be nervous about opening up and hitting high notes but seeing her, she took me to a whole different level.
“Every time I saw her sing, it made me think of all the possibilities that could be mine if I put in that passion and drive. No other artist impacted me to the point that I thought ‘oh my goodness I can conquer the world with my music.

From her, I took away expression, connecting with people, and being conscious of my song delivery. I started to open up more. I told myself, “I’m not gonna hide my wide range. When I sing, I will go on that stage and be confident!”
