I was single when I was 15/16; all my friends were in relationships. Up until that point, I had not had a serious boyfriend. I was a kid; I did not know anything about relationships – meaningful ones at least. Then I heard Make Me Whole by Amel Larrieux; I thought, wow, what she is saying about this man is everything I want in a husband!

What she is saying about this man is everything I want in a husband!

Make Me Whole is a beautiful love song from a woman to her partner, her husband, her lover. It is about what she sees in him and how he makes her improve what she sees in herself. The picture she paints of the person in her life is how I wanted to look at the person I married. The song told me, this is how you should feel about your husband when you meet him. It was one of the first things that shaped my perspective of what love should look like, the possibilities of what love can be, and how it can make you feel.

Fast forward several years, I have now been married for just over a year. We played the song at my wedding – I made sure of it. The verse speaks about appreciating your partner’s character, their eyes, their smile, their essence. That is what I have with my husband. Sometimes I will stare at him and feel the butterflies. The butterflies are still there; they are a reminder that I love him!

One of my favorite lines in the song talks about love completing your existence. Those are strong words! While I think that only God can complete our existence, I get where Amel is coming from in a romantic sense. I see myself and my husband working towards that. We continue to learn to gel together.

I am captured by the song every time I listen to it. The lyrics are beautiful, her voice, her vocal range, everything works together perfectly.

It makes you fall in love with love!
